Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting student communication needs as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 school year. As a valued resource for students and staff, youll help foster an inclusive environment for learners by facilitating understanding and expression in the classroom setting. This full-time role runs from August 10, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with a consistent 37.5-hour workweek.
Bring your expertise and compassion to ensure every students voice is heard and understood. You'll work closely with students requiring sign language assistance, ensuring their access to classroom instruction and collaborations with peers and educators.
Qualifications:
- Hold an active license as a Sign Language Interpreter in the state of North Carolina
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess strong communication skills
- Experience providing sign language interpretation services in educational settings preferred
- Comfort working exclusively in an onsite capacity for the entire duration of the assignment
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to meet students' IEP goals
- Dedication to confidentiality and maintaining a positive, inclusive atmosphere
Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time, accurate sign language interpretation during classroom lessons, discussions, and school activities
- Support individual or small group instruction as outlined in student IEPs
- Foster student engagement and encourage independence through effective communication strategies
- Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource for students, faculty, and families
- Adapt interpreting techniques to suit changing student needs and classroom dynamics
