Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Certification or eligibility for certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (i.e., EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
• Previous experience interpreting in educational or similar environments preferred
• Understanding of Deaf culture and knowledge of ethical guidelines for educational interpreters
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere

Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken communication into sign language for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers in classroom and school activities
• Modify interpreting style as needed for subject matter and student comprehension
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism within all interpreting assignments
• Support students understanding of lessons, instructions, and school events
• Assist with classroom management and support student engagement during activities
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) planning when requested
