Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Hold Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
  • Achieve an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5+ and a passing score on the EIPA written test
  • Consideration for equivalent certification as recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting for K-12 students in classroom or educational environments is highly preferred
  • Strong ethical standards and ability to maintain professional boundaries in a school-based setting
  • Collaborative spirit and willingness to work with multidisciplinary educational teams

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver ASL interpretation for classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and special events
  • Facilitate communication between students, educators, peers, and staff, ensuring full access to curriculum and participation
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to meet the varied needs and language levels of individual students
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards
  • Participate in IEP meetings and team planning sessions as needed
