Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

• Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, plus a passing score on the written assessment
• Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
• Proven ability to interpret in K-12 educational environments
• Strong understanding of educational terminology and protocols
• Committed to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all settings
• Collaborative approach to working with educators, staff, and families

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students who use sign language, educators, peers, and other school personnel
• Support students engagement and participation in classroom activities, extracurricular events, and school functions
• Prepare for lessons by reviewing instructional materials for subject-specific terminology
• Uphold ethical standards and adhere to educational interpreting practices
• Provide feedback and periodic updates to instructional teams regarding students progress and communication needs
