Job Description

Seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students in educational settings, with assignments based in Slidell, LA. This travel position offers the opportunity to work within various schools, providing essential communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating clear and effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff
  • Interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Adhering to confidentiality policies and ethical standards of interpretation
  • Collaborating with educators and support staff to enhance learning experiences
  • Traveling between assigned school locations within the designated area as required

Desired qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and strong interpreting skills in educational environments
  • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools or similar settings preferred
  • Ability to manage a travel schedule efficiently and adapt to various educational contexts
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism
  • Certification as a Deaf Interpreter or from recognized bodies (e.g., RID) is a plus
