Job Description

A full-time opportunity is available for experienced Sign Language Interpreters to provide communication support for students in a school setting located in Shaftsbury, VT. This contract position offers the chance to work directly with kindergarten and 3rd grade students to facilitate effective communication and enhance their learning experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality sign language interpreting services during school hours (8:30 AM 3:00 PM)
  • Supporting students individually in classroom settings within one school assignment per interpreter
  • Collaborating with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Participating in training sessions and ongoing professional development as provided
  • Complying with school district policies and maintaining confidentiality

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting in educational environments
  • Open to both certified and non-certified interpreters eager to engage in this role
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, with consistent availability
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students and school staff
  • Commitment to supporting student success through clear and accurate interpretation

Additional information:

  • This position reports within a supervisory union in the Southwest Vermont region
  • Candidates will be required to complete a background screening process prior to start
  • A signed contract and onboarding process is mandatory before commencing work
  • Supervision is provided by designated school support personnel
  • Interviews will be conducted in a panel format, with swift decision-making anticipated
