A school-based Sign Language Interpreter opportunity is available in Seattle, WA, supporting middle school students onsite. This contract position runs from ASAP through June 16, 2026, with a focus on providing effective communication access for hearing-impaired students at Illahee Middle School.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction and school communications for middle school students using American Sign Language (ASL).
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to facilitate an inclusive learning environment.
- Support student engagement and comprehension to ensure equal access to education.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to state and professional ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Current Washington State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably with middle school students.
- Strong knowledge of ASL and familiarity with state educational standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Position Details:
- Location: Seattle, WA (onsite at a middle school)
- Schedule: 35 hours per week, with 6.5 hours paid and 7.0 hours scheduled daily
- Contract duration: Immediate start through June 16, 2026
