Job Description

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student within an adaptive classroom for the upcoming school year. Set in the vibrant Savannah area, you'll make a difference by providing comprehensive communication services to a student who utilizes a wheelchair, ensuring access and engagement throughout their educational day. This role is strictly onsite, as preferred by the student's guardians.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher required
  • Previous experience in school settings, particularly with SPED or adaptive learning environments, is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and commitment to confidentiality
  • Versatility in interpreting for students with additional mobility or learning needs
  • Ability to collaborate closely with educational staff, therapists, and families
  • Sensitivity, professionalism, and strong organizational skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear communication between the student, teachers, and peers throughout the school day
  • Adapt interpretation methods as needed for an adaptive classroom setting
  • Collaborate with education teams to support student IEP goals
  • Ensure the student's full participation in academic and extra-curricular activities
  • Anticipate and proactively address communication needs, adjusting to dynamic classroom situations
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required
  • Potential to provide 1:1 interpretation based on continuing student assignment information
