Step into a dynamic contract opportunity providing sign language interpreting services for K-12 students in the vibrant communities near Santa Maria, CA. This full-time, 37.5 hour per week position begins as soon as possible and extends through the 2026-2027 school year. Youll collaborate with diverse student populations across multiple schools, supporting communication access and inclusion for children with varying needs.
Your dedication will support the educational journey of students in Pismo Beach, Santa Maria, and Edna, CA. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and a passion for making a difference through language access.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current California SLP license or valid California CTC credential for Sign Language Interpreting
- Prior experience in a K-12 educational setting strongly preferred
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with a range of communication modes used by Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work with teachers, staff, and families
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and best practices in educational interpreting
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, confidential, and impartial sign language interpretation for students, staff, and families in classroom and school settings
- Support IEP and academic goals by ensuring full communication access
- Assist in a variety of classroom activities, assemblies, and meetings as needed
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to promote student inclusion and success
- Maintain ethical standards and adhere to all applicable laws and school policies
