Sign Language Interpreter Schools (K-12)
Location: Santa Maria, CA (also serving Pismo Beach, CA and Edna, CA)
Contract Type: Full-Time Contract (37.5 hours/week) for the 2026-2027 School Year
A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support students across multiple K-12 schools within the Santa Maria area. This position focuses on providing high-quality interpreting services to ensure effective communication and equal access to the educational environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The role requires experience in school settings, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely sign language interpretation during classes, school activities, and meetings
- Facilitate communication among students, teachers, and staff to promote an inclusive learning environment
- Assist with accommodations for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with special education teams and other professionals to support student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of practice
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid CA Sign Language Interpreter credential (CA CTC or equivalent) required
- Prior experience interpreting in a school environment, preferably K-12
- Familiarity with educational terminology and school protocols
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively and adapt to a dynamic school setting
