Job Description

Exceptional opportunity for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in a dynamic educational setting. This full-time contract position offers an impactful role working directly within a high school environment in the San Luis Obispo area, serving multiple cities including Pismo Beach, Santa Maria, and Edna, CA. The contract spans the 2026-2027 school year, with an immediate start.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and classroom instructors using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Support academic success by interpreting lectures, discussions, and school events in real-time.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure accessibility and comprehension of instructional material.
  • Adapt interpretation techniques to meet individual student needs and various classroom environments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in the educational setting.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid California state certification or license as a Sign Language Interpreter.
  • Experience working with K-12 students in an educational or similar environment.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills.
  • Ability to work full-time (37.5 hours per week) throughout the contracted school year.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Location: This role is based primarily within a high school serving the San Luis Obispo County area, including Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Santa Maria, and Edna, CA.
