Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to accurately interpret spoken and signed communication in real time
• Prior experience working as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a K-12 school environment
• Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom settings
• Ability to collaborate with educators, therapists, and staff to enhance student learning
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; patience and empathy are essential
• Current certification or licensure to interpret in California schools is highly preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct interpreting services between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff in both classroom and extracurricular settings
• Ensure clear and accurate communication, adapting to the needs of individuals and groups as required
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times in accordance with school policies and interpreter ethics
• Support classroom participation and learning by accurately conveying academic content and social interactions
• Collaborate with teachers and support teams to enhance student inclusion and academic progress
• Participate in meetings and professional development as needed
