Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough understanding of Deaf culture
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
- Experience supporting students in educational settings is highly desired
- Ability to interpret class instruction, discussions, school events, and meetings clearly and impartially
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, teachers, and families
- Strong ethical standards and respect for confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, assemblies, and school activities
- Support students in accessing curriculum, assignments, and school communications
- Facilitate clear understanding between deaf/hard of hearing students and school personnel
- Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure effective accommodations for students with hearing needs
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and support services provided
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when requested
- Foster an inclusive learning atmosphere where all students can thrive
