Job Description

An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication support in school settings located in Rutland, VT. This role involves travel between various educational institutions, offering a dynamic work environment for professionals experienced in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and school staff.
  • Accurately interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, social interactions, and school events.
  • Collaborating with educators and support personnel to ensure inclusive learning experiences.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Traveling to multiple school locations as assigned to deliver interpreting services.

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting skills tailored to educational settings.
  • Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools or similar environments.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and educational terminology.
  • Ability to travel between school sites within the Rutland area.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Certification or accreditation as an Interpreter is preferred.
