Job Description
Step into a dynamic educational environment supporting a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom. As an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, you will play a vital role during instructional periods, assisting a student who uses cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and is transitioning back to school after time at a Residential Day School Program. Your expertise will help bridge communication gaps and nurture this student's academic progress and adjustment.
Qualifications:
- Hold at least one of the four nationally recognized Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) certifications
- Experience working in educational settings, particularly with high school students or in behavioral classrooms, is strongly preferred
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Comfortable working onsite in a school setting
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct interpretation services during instructional times (average of 6.5 hours per day), excluding lunch and arrival/dismissal periods
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between the student and classroom staff
- Support the unique communication needs of a student with advanced hearing assistance technologies
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to help the student integrate and thrive in the classroom
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
