Job Description

A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support middle school students onsite in Renton, WA. This contract position runs from ASAP through June 16, 2026, serving a dedicated caseload at a middle school setting. The role requires 35 hours per week, with 6.5 paid hours out of a 7.0-hour scheduled day, providing consistent and meaningful support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and staff by providing sign language interpretation throughout the school day.
  • Adapt interpretation methods to meet diverse student needs within the middle school environment.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to ensure accessibility and promote an inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to student progress and communication needs.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and clinical advisory sessions to enhance skills and service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State license as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
  • An Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
  • Proven ability to interpret in a middle school educational setting with adherence to ethical standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering student success through effective communication.
