Qualifications and Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting in educational or school settings preferred
- RID/NAD certification or state credentials (if required)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and students
- Flexibility and professionalism in adapting to varied classroom environments
- Dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, presentations, and discussions between teachers, peers, and students who use sign language
- Facilitate effective communication during school meetings, extracurricular activities, and events
- Accurately convey spoken information into sign language and vice versa
- Work one-on-one or with small groups, adapting interpretation style to diverse student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics at all times
- Contribute to educational plans by collaborating with educators and administration as needed
