Step into a dynamic educational setting as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter supporting students and facilitating inclusive communication. This full-time, contract position runs 37.5 hours per week, beginning with the 26/27 academic year and continuing through the end of the school term. Based in a collaborative atmosphere near Portsmouth, VA, you will have the rewarding opportunity to make a daily difference in students lives.
Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, plus a passing grade on the written test
- Alternate qualifications deemed equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards
- Previous experience in educational interpretation or with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Adaptability and a positive attitude in supporting a diverse learning community
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation in various classroom and school settings
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and school personnel
- Support student participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
- Assist in developing communication strategies tailored to individual student needs
- Maintain records as required and participate in relevant meetings or workshops
- Uphold confidentiality and foster an inclusive, supportive environment
