Step into an impactful role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic school setting for the 2026-2027 academic year. This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to foster communication and educational access for learners who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, working closely with both students and educational staff. With a schedule that aligns with the academic calendar, youll enjoy consistent hours while making a meaningful difference every day.
Desired Qualifications:
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher and successful completion of the EIPA written test
- Alternative qualifications recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational interpreting standards
- Experience working in educational settings is a plus
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpreting services between American Sign Language and English in classroom environments, school activities, and meetings
- Support direct communication between students, teachers, peers, and staff to promote inclusive learning
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professionalism in all interactions
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development activities as appropriate
- Adapt interpreting styles to meet student needs and foster a positive, accessible learning environment
