Job Description

This travel opportunity for an Educational Sign Language Interpreter offers an engaging role supporting students in a dynamic school environment in Portales, NM. The position requires providing 1:1 interpretation for a preschool student and facilitating sign language exposure for students from 1st through 8th grades.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering clear and accurate American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation to support student learning and communication.
  • Collaborating with teachers and support staff to ensure effective communication access for students requiring sign language assistance.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and clinical mentorship to enhance interpreting skills and educational impact.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in all interactions within the educational setting.

Qualifications or Desired Experience:

  • Current State / Discipline license required: SLI Licensed in New Mexico.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated ability to interpret effectively across a range of age groups.
  • Experience working with preschool through middle school-aged children preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to a school environment.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • End Date: May 21, 2026
  • Work Schedule: 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm
