Job Description
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student in a specialized adaptive classroom setting. This position offers a full-time schedule in an onsite environment, collaborating closely with special education professionals to provide critical communication access and contribute meaningfully to student success. This role begins August 3, 2026, and continues through May 21, 2027.
Key Qualifications:
- Hold EIPA certification with a score of 3.5 or higher.
- Experienced in educational settings, preferably with adaptive or special needs populations.
- Proficient in American Sign Language interpretation techniques for K-12 students.
- Comfortable working with students who may use wheelchairs and specialized supports.
- Able to deliver both classroom-wide and, pending details, potential 1:1 services.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and responsive to feedback from educators, families, and students.
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret live lessons, assignments, and classroom activities from spoken English to American Sign Language and vice versa.
- Facilitate understanding between the student, peers, and staff in all classroom and school-related interactions.
- Adjust interpreting style to meet the individual needs of the student and classroom situation.
- Consult regularly with special education teachers and service providers to ensure consistent access to curriculum and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Possibly provide compensatory services as required.
