Job Description

A full-time opportunity for a Sign Language Interpreter specializing in American Sign Language (ASL) is available at a K-12 educational setting in Petersburg, MI. This role involves providing interpretation services to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students within classroom environments to ensure clear communication and equal access to education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to facilitate effective communication with DHH students
  • Support inclusion and accessibility initiatives within the educational setting
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical practices

Qualifications and Experience:

  • EIPA score of 4.0 or higher and current licensure as a Michigan interpreter through LARA
  • Candidates with an EIPA score between 3.5 - 3.9 may be considered if testing was completed within the last 24 months and continuing education units (CEUs) have been fulfilled; waiver approval by the director is required
  • Strong understanding of K-12 educational dynamics and experience interpreting for DHH students preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity
