Job Description

Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to a meaningful opportunity supporting a bright young learner! We're seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide one-on-one support to a kindergarten student in a welcoming school setting. This contract position offers full-time hours, blending direct ASL services with valuable paraprofessional support to ensure every school day is a success.

In this engaging role, you will:

  • Deliver one-on-one ASL interpretation for a kindergarten student just beginning their journey in a new district
  • Provide classroom support and facilitate communication between the student, peers, and teachers
  • Serve as a paraprofessional during times when direct interpreting isn't required, assisting with daily learning activities and routines
  • Collaborate closely with educators to create an inclusive, accessible learning environment
  • Monitor progress and adapt support strategies as the student's schedule and needs evolve
  • Start by providing interpreting services one day per week, expanding as the student's attendance increases (anticipated full classroom participation after December)

To be considered, you should have:

  • Valid Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) certification for Indiana
  • A 3.5 or higher EIPA score; candidates in progress may be considered if a written exam date is set
  • Experience working with young children or in an educational setting preferred
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to fostering a positive, supportive learning experience

You'll have the chance to make a lasting impact in a nurturing, student-focused environment while honing your skills. This is an onsite role offering a full school-year assignment, with opportunities to expand your hours and experience as the student's needs increase.

If youre ready to help shape a students educational journey with your interpreting skills and make a difference every school day, wed love to hear from you! Apply today to get started.
