An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential communication support within school settings. This role requires interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa, facilitating clear communication between hearing-impaired students and their educators and peers. Travel assignments will be within school environments located in and around Pawtucket, RI, providing a dynamic and engaging work experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret conversations, lectures, and classroom discussions between hearing and hearing-impaired individuals.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure effective communication in various educational settings.
- Prepare and review materials with educators to facilitate accurate interpretation.
- Adapt interpreting styles to meet the needs of diverse learners, including individual students and groups.
- Facilitate participation in school activities, meetings, and events by providing appropriate interpreting services.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills.
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational environments.
- Familiarity with deaf culture and communication needs of hearing-impaired students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to travel to different schools within Pawtucket, RI, and surrounding areas.
- Certification or credentials in sign language interpretation preferred.
