Job Description

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledgeable in interpreting for a range of academic subjects and settings
  • Previous experience working within a K-12 educational environment is highly advantageous
  • Ability to foster positive, constructive relationships with students, parents, and school staff
  • Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and a commitment to student confidentiality
  • Relevant certification or equivalent state licensure for educational sign language interpreting

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL to facilitate communication for students during lessons, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
  • Support classroom instruction by ensuring information is accurately conveyed and accessible
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt instructional content when necessary for student understanding
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute insights on student progress and needs
  • Serve as a language and cultural mediator, advocating for student inclusion in all school activities
