Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other modes of communication for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school settings is preferred
  • State and national certification as a Sign Language Interpreter is highly desirable
  • Ability to build effective rapport with students and educational staff
  • Commitment to inclusivity, confidentiality, and professional ethics
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, 1:1 sign language interpreting services to support a student during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and other school personnel
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the unique needs of the student
  • Participate in educational team meetings and collaborate with staff to ensure optimal support
  • Maintain accurate records of interpreted sessions as required
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment where all students have equal access to instruction
