Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Illinois Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) License is required
- Previous experience interpreting in educational environments, especially at the middle school level, is highly valued
- Familiarity with state and district-specific requirements for interpreters (PEL or Para Certification, if applicable)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and strong grasp of professional interpreting ethics
- Excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a supportive attitude when working with students and school staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services within classrooms and school activities for assigned middle school students
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure equitable access to educational content
- Translate spoken language into sign language, and vice versa, in both individual and group settings
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreters
- Monitor and support student progress, providing input for individualized education plans as appropriate
