Make a meaningful impact by supporting students in their academic journey as a Sign Language Interpreter for elementary and middle school classrooms. This contract role involves facilitating clear communication for students in grades Pre-K through 5, ensuring equal access to educational opportunities. Your expertise will empower young learners who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to fully engage in the classroom environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience in educational settings, especially working with pediatric or K8 populations
- Comfortable providing 1:1 support in both classroom and individual settings
- Familiarity with IEP processes and supporting diverse learning needs
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to foster inclusive learning
- Professional certification or licensure in sign language interpreting preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a designated student or group
- Assist with communication during transitions, assemblies, and other school events
- Support academic and social development by accurately conveying spoken and signed language
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all student interactions
- Participate in meetings to support educational planning for assigned students
- Provide feedback to educational teams regarding communication needs and strategies
