Job Description
A full-time opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support communication and learning for deaf and hard of hearing students in an educational setting located in Oroville, CA. This contract position entails approximately 30 hours per week, typically spread across six hours per day, through May 28, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication between deaf/hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, teachers, and school personnel through sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
- Support students academically in subjects such as reading, writing, and math within elementary and intermediate school classrooms
- Assist students with vocational and living skills development as needed
- Monitor student activities during classroom, outdoor, and community engagements
- Collaborate effectively with school teams to promote inclusive education
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a minimum score of 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
- Candidates with an EIPA below 4.0 are welcome and will be referred as ASL Paraeducators
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with an Associates degree considered
- Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in a school environment is preferred
