Job Description

Make a meaningful impact by supporting students as a valued American Sign Language Interpreter. In this contract role, youll bridge communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their school community, playing a vital part in their access to education. The position is based near Omak, WA, offering the chance to work closely with educators and families in an engaging learning environment.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency
  • Previous interpreting experience in educational settings is highly desirable
  • Knowledgeable about Deaf culture and best practices for inclusive communication
  • Ability to quickly adapt to various classroom subjects and age groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism when collaborating with staff, students, and parents
  • National or state interpreter certification preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken content into ASL and voice interpret for students as needed
  • Enable clear and accurate communication during classroom activities, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
  • Support students understanding by adapting signing style to suit individual needs
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure effective access to curriculum and classroom discussion
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all pertinent codes of ethics
  • Remain flexible and attentive to changing schedules or assignments within the school setting
