- Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards related to interpreting in schools
- Holds required interpreter certifications or is eligible for state credentials
- Strong interpersonal abilities and cultural sensitivity
- Flexibility to adapt to various classroom settings and learning environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Facilitate communication between students, educators, and peers in both classroom and extracurricular settings
- Collaborate with teachers to prepare for lessons and ensure all instructional information is conveyed effectively
- Support classroom participation and engagement, helping students access curriculum, discussions, and activities
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, adhering to school policies and confidentiality guidelines
- Attend team meetings as needed to support individual student education plans (IEPs)
