Job Description

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills.
  • Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational or school-based setting.
  • Certification such as EIPA, RID, or state licensure (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Ability to adapt and interpret in a variety of classroom and extracurricular scenarios.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff.
  • Interpret classroom instruction, lectures, group discussions, and school events.
  • Support the educational goals outlined in students IEPs.
  • Assist in clarifying assignments and instructions for students as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to ensure appropriate accommodations for students.
  • Provide feedback regarding communication needs and strategies.
