School-Based Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) near Piedmont, CA
Position Overview
Sunbelt is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to provide essential communication access for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing within a school setting. In this role, you will facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Facilitation: Provide high-quality, real-time ASL interpretation for classroom lectures, group discussions, and school assemblies.
Adaptation: Tailor interpretation to the students cognitive level, grade level, and specific language needs (ASL, PSE, or SEE).
Collaboration: Work closely with Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), classroom teachers, and IEP teams to support student goals.
Mentorship: Educate staff and students on the role of the interpreter and best practices for working with Deaf/HH individuals.
Confidentiality: Maintain strict adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct and student privacy (FERPA).
Requirements & Qualifications
Certification: Must meet California state requirements for educational interpreters. This includes:
An EIPA score of 4.0 or higher (Performance Test).
OR RID National Certification (NIC, CSC, etc.).
OR ESSE-I/R score of 4.0 or higher.
Experience: Previous experience in a K-12 educational setting is a plus.
Skills: Fluency in American Sign Language and a deep understanding of Deaf culture.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive Hourly Rate: Generally ranging from $45.00 $55.00+ per hour based on experience and credentials.
