Job Description

This full-time, onsite contract opportunity involves supporting a single student in a classroom setting, enhancing their learning experience by offering direct sign language interpretation and curriculum support. The assignment runs the entire 26/27 school year (August to June), with a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III, Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher with a passing written test, or a recognized national certification such as the NIC
  • Demonstrated expertise in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Prior experience interpreting in school or educational settings preferred
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with students and staff
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ASL interpretation for one student throughout their school day, ensuring effective communication in both academic and social settings
  • Support learning by translating classroom instruction, activities, and materials
  • Facilitate interactions between the student, teachers, and peers to promote full participation
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the student's unique communication needs
  • Collaborate with educators to stay informed on curriculum and student goals
