Key Qualifications:
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher and a passing score on the written test
- Other credentials recognized as equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Professional experience in K-12 educational settings preferred
- Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with current interpreting practices
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards as outlined by professional organizations
Your Role Will Include:
- Facilitating clear and effective communication between students, teachers, and staff using ASL and spoken English
- Interpreting classroom lessons, school assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
- Supporting students academic and social participation by adapting signing styles as needed
- Collaborating with teachers and team members to understand lesson objectives and student needs
- Maintaining accurate records and following school policies regarding student privacy and interpreter conduct
