Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students by providing essential communication access as a Sign Language Interpreter within an elementary educational setting. This contract position offers both part-time and full-time options, giving you the flexibility to fit your schedule. You'll work onsite in an itinerant capacity, supporting students across various classrooms and settings near Naperville and Mount Prospect, IL.

Use your expertise to facilitate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, their peers, and educators, ensuring equal access to learning and participation. As part of a dedicated school team, your role will be vital in promoting inclusive education and fostering a positive learning environment.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting or working with young learners
• Understanding of Deaf culture and the unique needs of elementary students
• Flexibility to travel within the district in an itinerant capacity
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
• Relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (state and/or national preferred)

Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and events between students, teachers, and classmates
• Adapt signing style and vocabulary to suit students age and developmental levels
• Serve at various elementary locations as needed
• Assist in facilitating classroom participation and engagement
• Work closely with educators to support students IEP goals
• Maintain confidentiality and support a respectful learning atmosphere
