Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and awareness of Deaf culture
  • Prior experience interpreting in schools or educational settings is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with educational vocabulary and processes
  • Certification as an Educational Interpreter, EIPA or RID preferred, or state-required credentials
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and events between students and school staff using ASL
  • Facilitate clear understanding and communication during assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in all interpreting assignments
  • Assist in adapting classroom materials and student interactions as needed to ensure participation
  • Serve as a language model and resource for deaf or hard-of-hearing students
