This full-time, contract position offers an immediate start and continues through late May 2026. Youll collaborate with educators and families to ensure students who are deaf or hard of hearing receive equitable access to classroom content and communication. With potential assignments across multiple schools, this dynamic role allows you to make a daily impact in the educational journey of children and young adults.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current and active Louisiana DOE certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of Deaf culture
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is desirable
  • Ability to adapt interpreting methods to a variety of student needs and classroom environments
  • Successful completion of both district and agency credentialing, including a drug screen and fingerprinting
  • Professional, ethical, and compassionate communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL, and vice versa, during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
  • Facilitate communication among students, teachers, and other school staff
  • Adapt signing to match the developmental level and needs of assigned students
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of assignments
  • Uphold ethical standards of interpreting in an academic setting
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development as required
