Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Completion of an interpreter training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience interpreting within an educational environment highly preferred
- Knowledge of educational terminology and protocols
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and parents
- Strong sense of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Current state or nationally recognized interpreter certification is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time, accurate sign language interpretation for students during classroom activities, assemblies, and extracurricular events
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt interpreting style for individual student needs and educational settings
- Support students in building self-advocacy skills
- Assist with preparation of materials or resources as needed to enhance communication
- Maintain records required for compliance and student progress
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and team collaboration sessions
