What you'll bring:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings strongly preferred
- Valid national certification (RID, EIPA, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with IEPs and educational terminology
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, staff, and families
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards
Key responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities from spoken English to ASL and vice versa
- Support students during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to optimize communication access for students
- Assist in adapting materials and resources as needed
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide professional input on student communication needs
- Maintain accurate records and follow ethical guidelines in interpreting services
- Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement
