Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent)
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational or school environments strongly preferred
- Understanding of IEP processes, confidentiality, and accommodation needs for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff
- Professionalism, adaptability, and reliability in dynamic school settings
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation for students across classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with teachers and educational staff to facilitate inclusion and address student communication needs
- Support compliance with students Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and accommodation requirements
- Contribute to an inclusive, positive, and supportive school atmosphere
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold standards of ethics related to student privacy and interpreter conduct
- Remain flexible to adjust to schedule changes or varying student needs day-to-day
