Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available at schools in Magalia, CA, offering an opportunity to support communication and education for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This contract role involves working approximately 30 hours per week (about 6 hours daily) and is onsite only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students, their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and other school staff.
  • Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting during classroom instruction and related activities.
  • Assist students with academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math.
  • Support students in developing vocational and living skills.
  • Monitor students during classroom, outdoor, and community activities.
  • Work primarily with elementary and intermediate school students; candidate preferences regarding grade level will be considered.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, or a minimum score of 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment.
  • Candidates with EIPA scores below 4.0 will be considered and referred as ASL Paraeducators.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and possession of an Associates Degree are also acceptable.
  • Ability to work onsite in Magalia, CA, full time.
  • Commitment to supporting students with hearing challenges in a school environment.
