Job Description

This onsite, full-time contract position offers 37.5 hours per week, allowing you to play a pivotal role in fostering communication and inclusive learning environments.

As an interpreter, youll collaborate closely with students, educators, and staff, ensuring clear and effective communication through American Sign Language. Your expertise will empower students to access curriculum, participate fully in school activities, and thrive academically.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Current licensure or permit from the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT)
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and flexibility in a school environment
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is a plus

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school events
  • Facilitate communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff
  • Assist in modifying interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs or settings
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed
  • Support teachers and school staff in understanding Deaf culture and communication best practices
