Qualifications and Skills:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with clear, accurate communication skills
- Experience working in educational or school settings is highly desirable
- Ability to interpret for a range of age groups, from early childhood through high school
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism within school environments
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with students, staff, and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classrooms and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to support student learning and participation
- Assist in adapting classroom materials to ensure accessibility for all learners
- Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
- Participate in team meetings and IEP (Individualized Education Program) sessions as needed
- Provide feedback and insights regarding student progress and needs
