Job Description

Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter supporting young learners at the elementary level. This full-time role offers the chance to provide essential 1:1 interpreting services, ensuring students have equitable access to classroom learning and activities.

Utilize your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and your commitment to student success by facilitating effective communication throughout the school day. Your service will play a pivotal role in enriching a students educational experience and fostering inclusion within the classroom environment.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Active Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) Certification required
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience in an educational or school setting preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional, adaptable, and able to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language for an elementary-level student in a 1:1 setting
  • Assist with communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers to support participation in academic and extracurricular activities
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing class materials and collaborating with faculty as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to established ethical standards
  • Foster an inclusive and accessible classroom environment
