Job Description

A dynamic opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide communication support within educational settings. This role involves travel to various schools in the Lowell, MA area, facilitating effective communication between students, educators, and staff to ensure an inclusive learning environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school events
  • Collaborating with teachers, students, and support staff to provide clear and accurate communication
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
  • Adhering to ethical standards and best practices for sign language interpretation
  • Traveling daily to assigned schools within the Lowell region

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated interpreting skills in educational settings
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably working with students in school environments
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and communication needs
  • Ability to manage travel between multiple school locations reliably
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Certification such as NAD (National Association of the Deaf) or RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) preferred

Location: Lowell, MA (travel required within the region)
