Job Description

Desired Qualifications: Current certification as an Educational Interpreter or relevant state credential Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and proficiency with various sign systems Previous experience working in K-12 educational settings preferred Deep understanding of Deaf culture and sensitivity to student needs Strong ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism Clear and respectful communication skills when collaborating with students, staff, and families

Key Responsibilities: Facilitate effective two-way communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and others within the school environment Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school assemblies, and extracurricular events as required Collaborate closely with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to ensure accessible and appropriate support for students Assist in preparing or adapting classroom materials to support student participation Serve as a language model and advocate, helping to foster self-advocacy and independence in students Adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines for educational interpreters
