Job Description

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational or school settings preferred
  • Familiarity with various interpreting modes (e.g., simultaneous, consecutive)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with both students and educators
  • Certification from RID or equivalent, or eligibility for certification
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreting services for students, staff, and families to facilitate communication in classroom and school activities
  • Support student learning by accurately conveying spoken information into ASL, and vice versa
  • Assist in adapting materials or explanations for students as needed, working closely with teachers and specialists
  • Collaborate with the educational team to create a supportive learning environment
  • Participate in IEP meetings or other relevant school functions requiring interpretation
  • Adhere to ethical standards of interpreting and district policies
