Job Description

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to interpret fluently between American Sign Language and spoken English in educational environments
  • National certification for interpreting in a school setting, or EIPA score of 3.7 or above (required)
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational or similar settings is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable utilizing technology for virtual interpreting if working remotely
  • Effective collaboration skills with educators, support staff, students, and families
  • Commitment to upholding confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Adaptable, approachable, and passionate about supporting students learning and communication needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities between staff and students using sign language
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that empowers student participation and engagement
  • Follow IEP accommodations and provide accurate transliteration or interpretation as needed
  • Assist in meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular events based on students needs
  • Collaborate with teachers and student support professionals to promote academic success
  • Clarify information as appropriate and facilitate communication for a range of school functions
