Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within school environments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to clarify and interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) accurately and sensitively
  • Completion of required interpreter training or certification, or equivalent experience
  • Flexibility, professionalism, and reliable attendance
  • Commitment to ethical standards in line with educational interpreting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting services for a student throughout the school day, ensuring equal access to academic and social content
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and specialists to support the students individual needs
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical guidelines in all interactions
  • Promote a trusting, respectful, and encouraging learning environment
  • Support classroom participation and foster student engagement
  • Adapt interpreting style to suit various instructional and social settings
