Your expertise will ensure equal access to instruction and communication throughout the school day. Work closely with teachers, administrators, and school specialists to facilitate learning and foster inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an interpreter training program strongly preferred
- EIPA, RID, or relevant interpreter certification highly valued
- Prior experience interpreting in school settings, particularly K-12, is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lessons, announcements, conversations, and special events
- Collaborate with teachers to adapt materials and facilitate full access to curriculum
- Support student participation in group activities and classroom discussions
- Serve as a communication bridge between students, peers, and staff
- Provide interpretation for meetings with parents and other school staff as needed
- Monitor and report on student progress and challenges to the educational team
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive atmosphere for all students
