Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills
  • Certification through recognized programs or agencies (such as EIPA, RID, or state credentials)
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Adaptability and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse individuals
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) during classroom instruction, meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
  • Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and staff
  • Support classroom participation and engagement for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Assist with translating educational materials and school communications as needed
  • Provide feedback to educators and support staff to maximize inclusion and accessibility
  • Maintain accurate records of interpreting services delivered
